<content type="html">Squadron Commanders and Group Staff,

I received the following e-mail from Capt Andresen:

&amp;quot;Group Commanders and Operations Officers,

Below is some of the information I discussed at the Wing Staff Conference.
The event will begin on the 26th.
Air crews should let their Group Operations Officer know their availability for the week.
The Operations officer should let Lt Col Gary Metz know their availability as he will be the IC during the week.
We will try to arrange tasking based on their schedule.

The 26th is a holiday.

The main part of the event will begin on Friday about 1600.
Anyone who is available then and/or on the Saturday would contact me or Lt Col Mike Widmann as he will be IC then.

There will be a mission base at IDI on the 31st only.
Lt Col Bill Geyer will be in charge of that.

We would like to have every aircraft in the Wing participate.
At a minimum we need 5 aircraft at MUI and 3 at IDI on the 31st.
Make absolutely SURE aircraft and vehicles have ZERO inspection issues before sending them.

Arnie Andresen Capt CAP
PAWG&amp;quot;

Please let Lt Tim Roth know if you are available for the week of the 26th of May.
His email is youhunt@msn.com.
I hope this information is helpful.
I also am looking forward to seeing you all on the 31th.

<content type="html">There are always many questions about saluting. I will try to clear up what we need to do and answer any questions. The 1st reference I would like to use is from CAPP 151, the Standards, Customs and Courtesies. From Section 2b. “Saluting. It is a courtesy exchanged between members of the Civil Air Patrol when in military-style uniform as both a greeting and a symbol of mutual respect. As such, it is never inappropriate to salute another individual. The basic rules regarding saluting for CAP members are:
(1) You salute when in military-style uniform.
(2) You salute the President of the United States, all Medal of Honor recipients, and commissioned officers and warrant officers of the Armed Forces who are senior in rank to you.
(3) You do not salute when indoors unless you are formally reporting to an officer senior in rank to you.
(4) You salute when outdoors unless:
(a) You are carrying articles (or a heavy object) in both hands, which cannot be transferred to the left hand, or another legitimate reason such as injury, and so forth. In this case, an oral greeting should be exchanged, such as &amp;quot;Good Morning, Sir or Ma'am.&amp;quot; If you are the lower ranking individual and the one you are approaching is higher in rank but whose arms are incapacitated, you will still salute.
(b) You are in a designated &amp;quot;covered&amp;quot; or &amp;quot;no salute&amp;quot; area, (aircraft marshalling areas and flightlines are &amp;quot;no salute&amp;quot; areas).
(c) You are a member of a military formation or a work detail (only the senior member of the formation or detail salutes).
(d) You are attending a public gathering such as a sports event.
 (5) When on a military installation, you salute officers in government cars if the car has a flag or metal standard that identifies the rank of the occupant (usually general officers and military wing or base commanders).
(6) Military personnel are not required to render a salute to CAP personnel, but they are not restricted from doing so if they desire.”

I had to highlight “it is never inappropriate to salute another individual.” No matter what uniform you are in or if you are not in uniform, I would suggest returning all salutes. This suggestion is backed up by the CAP Knowledge base at &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.cap.gov&quot;&gt;www.cap.gov&lt;/a&gt;. The following Question and Answer is from there.

“Question - What is the most appropriate response when a cadet salutes me (a senior member without grade)? What if I held an officer grade, but was wearing a CAP-distinctive or corporate uniform? Does my response change?
Answer - It would be appropriate to return the salute as many cadets are taught to salute all senior members. Salutes are not required when wearing most of the CAP distinctive uniforms, but it would be appropriate to return a salute if you are saluted by a cadet or other senior member.”

Also, “Members wearing the Corporate Service Coat or the white aviator shirt and blue pants/skirt combination should observe the same customs and courtesies as members wearing the Air Force-style uniform.” This is from CAP/CC Letter, Change to CAPM 39-1 dated 25 Jan 08.

I hope this information helps answer some questions.

<content type="html">Important Message from the PAWG Commander

Recently, Pennsylvania Wing underwent a Compliance Inspection (CI) by National Headquarters, and obtained an overall rating of Satisfactory. Despite this success, deficiencies were identified in our safety program which caused the Wing to be grounded until our members had completed the 10-Second ORM pamphlet and certification. Thanks to your prompt attention to this requirement, I am pleased to announce that the grounding has been lifted, and we have been reinstated for training and operational missions.

I must point out that this reinstatement is probationary for a period of one year. This means we must perform at an exceptional level every day, both in our compliance with operational directives, regulations, and procedures and in our proper completion and maintaining of required records and paperwork. It also means that we are subject to no-notice inspections of our vehicles and aircraft, and all associated documentation. Not only must we perform in a safe and efficient manner, we must be able to prove that we did so.

This third-party review can only serve to make our operations, which were already being conducted safely, even more productive, and better for all concerned.

Once again, our aircraft are flying and our vehicles are rolling. As long as we continue to play by the rules and put safety first, we will be free to perform the important missions we conduct for the Civil Air Patrol, the Commonwealth, and for America.

<content type="html">Reading Composite Squadron is looking for volunteers to help with parking and other details for the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's World War II Weekend. What began as the recreation of a WWII airfield has grown to encampments representing the European and Pacific Theatres of the War, including an extensive home front display, more than 80 period aircraft, 200 vehicles and over a thousand living history re-enactors and entertainers.

This event draws thousands of people and the Reading Composite Squadron needs help finding them all a place to park. Duties will also include flight line perimeter watch and some aircraft escort. Everyone who arrives will be put to work, but also receive plenty of time to explore the event.

The activity begins the morning of June 6 (Friday) and goes until the afternoon of June 8 (Sunday). All help is appreciated, especially any squadrons that could work with us on Friday and/or Sunday. All three days are very busy, but Friday and Sunday are our lowest staffed days. All squadrons bringing cadets must have at least one senior member attending the event.

Squadrons will receive an equitable portion of the donation made by the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's based on their unit’s man-hours.

If you have any questions or are interested in participating in the World War II Weekend, please provide your Squadron name, Contact Name and Phone Number and e-mail address to 1Lt Maria Kantner at mtk126@aol.com or 610-777-8272 (home).</content>
